:hmm: As far as I know I've never had my work ripped off, thankfully. Sites that allow people to upload images will always wind up gathering stolen works. I mean, one look at the Polyvore terms of service show you are not allowed to submit works that are not your own.

People don't understand that it is a problem, it is illegal, and no matter what you're using it for, if the artist doesn't want you to do it, you cannot.
Art theft is always going to be a problem, especially on the internet, there's only so much we can do, I figure.

Though I'd like to make mention your piece is no longer there, which would mean someone listened. Personally if my work was stolen and just shown around, without credit to me, I'd simply ask for a link back to my deviantART gallery, but if someone was selling it...
I'd go medieval on their ass. And then I'd take the legal route. I'm not sure which would be more damaging, really. Hehe.

Cheers, dear.

the main problem is, and that is where "communities" like polyvore comes into play: there is a decent demand on hobby image-edit enthusiasts, that don´t want to have big photoshop and want to play with iphone..

i didn´t get the most things there either, as long if they don´t make money of it - who cares...

if they do, there is only a question of time until a lot publisher sents lawsuits to ban this page- but it needs to be of public interrest first...

as long as there is not such an industry interrest such as with "pirate-bay" another "who cares"

sad but true...

right my whole entire issue is just this, would you go into an art gallery remove something from the wall, paste crepe paper and color on it with finger paints and then claim it as your own? you know what i am saying... it is just a frustrating epidemic, people think because the web is our forum this gives them some kind of right to our hard work

i understand you fully, and the situation is(what i have experienced) people do this: going to an artshow and making pictures with their handy...ok, in a gallery normally no one would say this is theirs if it is a photo from one of DaVinci´s works -because everyone knows his work...
the problem i observe is that people did not know that we are recognized or emerging artists and they think -what you´ve said- when they find art on the web, then its also theirs...
wicked situation....

btw, another thing i´ve thought about lately is,; no one would really comment on modern contemporary art- nor would someone steal a piece from a gallery -(the most stuff is too ugly) so you get the point; in real world someone only does artrobbery when it has a high-prized name on it(and then its equal how it looks) in the world of jpegs one can get picky and save whats popular or he/she likes...

The public demand is art-collection that is free, that gives access to people without boundaries, we are part of this process
in one way or the other deviantart makes the same in our little community - and as long as its done shared within the boundaries you agree to the terms of service..
some ppl just don´t get that the ToS end with the one site and have new with another website

They are gone for now ... but what site will take them next? I see art from here on those links that are comments for MySpace etc and it makes me sick. I told Dezzan :icondezzan: and some others and they checked it out, but it did no good.

If someone sees a page like that, don't hesitate to denounce it to the server. No server allows this behavior and they can cancel the page or even close the account.
No one should doubt doing it!!!

The site is gone...It has been shut down.

I just wish more people would use the digitally embedding watermark system on hidden watermarks... Why should anyone have to deface their art when there are perfectly good digital methods available. The only viable excuse is laziness. Sorry but that's the case. Most cannot wait to post images to get faves and comments when a few minutes would protect your work so it can be tracked.

Unfortunately it's out of reach for many people because digital branding is very expensive.

Unfortunately that's not proper digital branding. That's just adding a watermark that's a little harder to see. Good tip though if you want less obvious watermarks. Thanks for the link.

I'm afraid there is no way, maybe a huge watermark over our work can help a bit, but I don't like the big watermarks

That's a nightmare for any artist. I don't understand why people do it. How can you plume when being complimented on artwork you KNOW is not yours? I don't understand what glory you can gain from that, and if they're selling it then how can they morally do that? I guess some people are without a conscience. =/

Do they even do anything about it, when you do report it? I went through there awhile ago and saw so many people's works there, and contacted the artists directly about it. Is it worth contacting Polyvore directly? I wasn't sure how much action they take. I think they're going to have a lawsuit on their hands eventually.

Sheesh! What a mess. It's the way the site is set up. It encourages people to just snip and use images from anywhere, whether that be oldnavy.com, or someone's online art portfolio.
