Are you effing kidding me?? Not to say my work is the most amazing stuff out there but my works have been denied  access from several groups as submitting my works! Now I have seen some pretty basic shit there soo from now on I will stick with my two regular groups unless invited to add a piece to a group! EFF THAT CRAP

As you can see I have gone back to the basics of the journal skin.  It is to show my great disappointing feelings here at DA recently.
My first heartache is this I have seen so very many artists on here flourish and come into their own, adapt their own styles, learn amazing techniques, keep on coming up with new and creative pieces, And so many of them go unnoticed, without acolytes and with a mild fan base.
Mean time I have seen people taken basic stock add a layer of texture or two over it and filter the hell out of it and it goes with the highest praise, where is the ethics in this? Claiming a piece is painted when it is clearly not. it is just extremely filtered. This just makes me sick to my stomach.
And the basic same piece of art, over used stocks in same scenario.] over and over again.
I have seen groups pop up that celebrate beginner art as genius wonderful and amazing and on a different level.
Not that it should not be seen or commented on  but if your Art Group is called [just making up names now please pardon if there is a group with such names] A Step Above, Unique Imaginations. etc etc    and just any art of the same stock on a generic background is praised then yeah it leaves me sad and feeling upset.
Over spamming art into groups to have popularity contests also sucks like a friggen Hoover.
I am definitely not saying my work is the best or even beyond others but what I am saying is I can tell most artists by their "signature " style and that is what sets them apart.
Their fluid blending, there idea to taking an already overused piece of stock and make it different, make is special and give it some beyond others.
Where as I have seen purchased stock without credits claiming to be "painted"'
I AM SO TIRED OF THE LACK OF TRYING, CREATIVITY, OR LASTLY "THINKING" YOU ARE FOOLING SEASONED ARTISTS.
I am not pointing fingers or naming names but if you take this to heart then it is more then likely you who is guilty of one of these things.
I have not posted a lot of my recent works here because my thought is this, "why bother?" I take my damned time hundreds and hundreds of layers blending, painting manipulating etc, when it is going to be stacked up and compared to someone who has spent minimal time slapping a cut out stock, onto a prefabbed bg and texturing the shoot out of it.

People who I love who have their own flavor and you can tell at some point someone has rooked their ideas if your name is not on here please do not take it personally
in no specific order

why not create an own group ? You can choose your own guidelines and what you want ( just showcase, development, ... ) I mean I just started this year with photo manipulation but it sometimes seems strange which artist will not be accepted ( some are really amazing ) and who wins, ...
so why not create something where you can put in your experience. i think you will find support and many artists who have the same thoughts.

Cheers

So true!! Im no professional, but I know it pisses me off when I spend 10 hours on a painting, then I see someones 10 min photo manipulation and it gets 10x the response, ugh...

aww man I know, some manipulations take weeks, months to perfect and execute, but when I see something slapped on a bg or just lay a texture over it any sort of minimal work, and ppl adore, love and rave over it it makes me INSANE!!! lol

MMMMMMMM, Yesssssss, This Is SAD For Sure. And Although I Am New Here, and Surely Not An Artist, I Came Here Because Your Work So Inspires Me, My Spirit, My GODs HEART. So I'll Just Offer This, Although It Does Not Offer A Resolution>

The SINCERE and Pure Of HEART Can Never Be Stolen From, Although There Are Those Who Think They Can and Think They Do So. They Are Only Hurting Themselves In The Greatest Of Ways, They Are Blocking Their Own Creativity. In The End, They Will Pay A High Price. You AutumnsGoddess and All The Other Originating Creators Are Pure Of HEART and Your Work Is Sooooooo Beautiful.

On The Flip Side, Why Can't The Owners Of This Site Do Something About This or At Least Turn This Person Out.

All My Best, नमस्ते

Okay, I have to put my two cents in on this
This really upsets me,when someone takes what is not there's and claims it as there own
Why can't people,be more considerate of the hard work all artist do and just simple write to them and ask to use there artwork
It is the right thing to do
Heck no, I am not talented enough to even draw a straight line or paint a simple circle that will look good, but I do create stationary and tags and I for one,do ask a artist before I just take there work to do so,again it is the right thing to do
My heat goes out to all of you who have had your work stolen
Please know, that I am on your side and If I ever see any work being used with out permission(not given any proper credit to a artist), I will inform you right away -I stand very firm in this and I do not care if the person I report gets made at me either, wrong,is wrong and they should be held accountable for there actions.
Thanks for all the beautiful work you do
Hugs

respect for you protecting the artists out there :) and even tho I'm not that good myself, I kinda hate it when people who didn't spend any efforts into a piece get alot of praise for it anyways. because even I can see it.

I think the fact that my life is so hectic that it prevents me from spending as much time as like at dA shields me from a lot of this nonsense. Or, heck, maybe I've just learned to tune it out. But I totally understand your frustrations. I get very tired of the goth girl in front of a blurred background. My gosh, I get tired of it. Even though some of them are very pretty. But one thing I know is that when I do come across something that's wholly original, I sure do treasure it!

I'm tremendously honored you singled me (and these other awesome artists) out for your entry.

Thank you for posting links to so many interesting artists. :)

About the problems with copycats and those putting in little effort and yet getting recognized -- it's true, but there has always been that problem. I think it would be far worse if those doing low-quality work discouraged others from doing high quality work. I think if we focus mostly on the good stuff, we reach higher and spread more light, and avoid getting pulled down low.

What gets me is the enormous amount of bad anime or manga art and so called fan art. I used to actually like Anime and manga art. Now I'm just sick of seeing it. As far as the forums are concerned I don't have anything to do with them. It's always the same shit so why bother. I agree young and beginning artists should be encouraged but there comes a point when ya just gotta say enough is enough.

Disclaimer: Since I'm kinda sleepy and English is not my native language, I apologize beforehand if I sound rough.

I agree with you mostly with what you said here. Yet, I think since you're a remarkable digital artist, your determination of not uploading anything again here couldn't be the answer to this whole situation. If I explain the idea further, I can say that since you're actually popular, you have the power to create or to promote a sort of standard here on dA, not a "witch hunt" but a sort of guidance for those that may need a better elaboration to their works. Hell, even the feature you gave to fellow deviants may help to know them and give them feedback between them and other who may pass by their galleries... Maybe taking action to fight against what is wrong in this site is better than retreating. At least in my opinion.

About using groups to promote your works... Yeah, I'm guilty as charged for using them, but since I got my gallery totally dead for a long period of time, I had to rebuild an audience... Yet I'm still not happy with my techniques nor my ideas on the paper. I still work hard to reach my goals. But that's another story... I just thing that groups are useful as a tool.

Again, I agree with you, it's sad to see how the standard of quality on dA is getting lower and lower every year... I remember I was the "average joe/low-level guy" here when I first arrived back in 2005. Sure times had changed.

Keep on the outstanding work and I hope you don't take offense on my viewpoints...

Regards.

my dear friend I always value your words you should know this for sure.
I have tried to guide in fact there was a batch of us offering just that Pro Education but it seemed to fall upon mostly deaf ears you know?
People need to want to improve change or have ethics.
One thing more then anything is a clear lack of ethics and or opinion of people when you take a photograph, texturize and textureize and filter it and then say you have painted something.
The are so many different avenues, genres etc that there should be no need for sure scams. It is insulting to the art community as as a whole.
but I digress I thank you for your words they are always appreciated here

Brave words & I heartily endorse everything you've said.

As a relative newcomer to photomanips (been doing them for about 6 months) I have wondered if it was "just me " that noticed these things & felt like this. I realised VERY quickly that the only reason for posting was to satisfy myself at a job done as well as my skills in the present moment allow. I get lots of faves but very few comments, mostly from people who support me & whose words I value. I've really let go of wanting to become known on the site in the wider sense, for all the reasons you've named. I've reached an age (65) where I'm able to be comfortable with what I do & to enjoy the feelings of achievement I have, as I experiment & improve & find my way towards a style of my own.

BTW it's the same with a lot of best-selling books: badly written, poor characterisation, flogging the same old same old vampires etc, & jumping on the current fad/bandwagon. (There are, of course, exceptions.) But I'm SO over the whole supernatural goth thing. There - that's my old-age rant for the day!

First thanks A LOT for including me in this list - can't tell you how much it means to me, honestly (your Somerset Digital profile/article was one of the starting point for me to take photomanip a bit more seriously).

Then, your post is absolutely my thoughts too (so much so that we actually founded a group exactly because of these experiences in DA - but you put it in writing so much better). And then I started to read the comments below and I got soooo excited that you and I are not the only one who feels the same with some pictures here. (My example is - without a name of course) - a very, very successful cover "artist" who does the same: foggy background, slapping on a model, doing 2 or three color change/filter/blur and that's it. Very often this person spits out 2-3-4 pics A DAY. How can you create a quality work in that speed? HUGE fan base, huge visitor numbers, etc - for the price of my life I can't see why. Anyway, whatever.)

Again, THANK YOU, thank you for this post - it made my day (and my week) for sure. There is hope.

First thank you SO much for including me in the list, it made me really good because recently I was feeling kinda bad about my pieces and questioning myself a lot... so, really thank you dear!
I pretty much agree with you dear :/ sooo many pieces with a gothic girl crying on a grave yard....itīs not that I have nothing against that kind of pictures, but it becames really boring and repeated :/
I used to browse everyday the Photomanipulation category but now? naah.
Not to mention those disgusting "expansions" of bellys, boobs and a lot of misplaced things that we get to see :/
I think that what is "popular" itīs the only thing that counts now, itīs playing the safe just to get a bunch of faves...
people itīs more interested in pageviews than in they works nowadays :/

Perhaps the problem is that the more you know about art, and how to create it, the harder you are to please. Almost all of the artists that you've listed in your journal have been members of dA for an age, and those with newer profiles are certainly not beginners. Now I understand what you mean about the glut of lazy, cookie cutter pieces that reign supreme here on dA, and they irk me immensely also. But, what they're making are "pictures", not "art", and they're popular in the same way that the rubbish hanging on the wall in places like Ikea are- just fabo for your angsty teenage daughter's bedroom wall. Hard as it is, it's best to ignore this stuff, and just get on with the business of realising your own vision, and supporting peeps who actually try, and push themselves, and whose gallery shows some evidence of growth both in concept and execution.

It's a lot of crap on dA and it is a lot of good work..I believe I have my own style and try to be creative and making scenes and stuff. I'm also creating both fantasy, dark and whatever art. And I don't use the 'popular' stock models either. But the most popular artworks are works with the 'popular' stock models. It hasn't been easy... It is not easy to 'go forward' on dA. But I believe the best way for an unknown and good artist to 'go forward' is to have support from an 'great and popular' artist who wants to feature your work and fav it and such! I'm so honored and grateful for the support I have from some of the very good and great artists from my friends list. I would not have come this far without them. So now I'm giving back by supporting other unknown good artists.I also always 'watch' back for the 'watchers' I have and fav theirs work because I would have been 'nothing' on dA without theirs support.

PREACH!

And I feel so honored to be included in your journal. I also take time and do many layers AND I try to NOT buy stock that is already done. I just recently came across an artist who just puts already purchased stock on top of a premade and she has HUNDREDS of favs. That's DA for ya. Do the least and get more favs! Those of us that actually create art see you. We know what you've done or NOT done with a piece. You think no one can see it but...we do.

Let me just say this, I LOVE MY TWO FAVS I get because I know that those people know what they're looking at. They know that I've taken time to make something with layers and symbols and meaning. So much is copied and just half-assed on DA and it wasn't like that until recently. It's because people don't know what art really is. They like to talk about how art is subjective and all that bullshit because that's what it is.

Bull. Donkey.

You don't see an artist who's work is really good sprouting that nonsense because we understand that YES although it might be subjective? It takes, time, and skill, and talent and not for nothing but it takes an imagination. Make one more picture with a chick in the blue woods. Make one more chick with a gun and some wings. Make one more picture with a chick in the water IN THE WOODS oh and make it blue. Show me one more chick with GAUSSIAN BLUR up the ass with one, just one, tear with BLUE WOODS in the background. Do that all day long.

It's boring.

Where's the originality?

Where's the creativity?

No one goes to a museum? Studies other artists? Other techniques?

IF you're going to be an artist, then be one. Don't make what everyone else is making just so you can be liked or fav'd or popular because if that's what's important to you? Your world is so small. Most of us, the majority of us make art because we feel it calling to us. A lot of us aren't making art for other people and you can tell the ones that do that, most of us make things that WE want to see and if you get it great, if you don't, it's okay.

I'm going to say this, being an artist takes more than knowing about photoshop. It's not about the filters. It's not about the effen, THE EFFEN PREMADES-MAKE YOUR OWN SHIT FFS, start from scratch, from a raw piece of stock. Take your own pictures. Make your own textures. Go deeper than photoshop because most of the people that ARE artists? Know more than photoshop ;)

Great journal.

Me love you long tiiiiiiime :glomp:
